Rich or Beautiful

This past weekend, I had such a great time with some friends at a backyard bonfire. We drank and talked and debated and not suprisingly, the age old question of "Would you rather be rich or beautiful?" came up. And suprisingly, my friends' responses shocked me because a) it was not what I expcted and b) it was unanimous. It wasn't even close to 50/50! So I don't spoil this post, I'm not going to tell you which way this group leaned but I'm anxious to see if my lovely bloggers have the same response as they did. Would you rather be RICH or BEAUTIFUL? And just so we're all on the same page, you're essentially picking RICH (& ugly) or BEAUTIFUL (& poor).... hey, it's just more fun that way ;-)

So which would you rather be, RICH or BEAUTIFUL?

wow really. ahhh this is so hard. I mean, how ugly are we talking? I think I'd rather take the money. because, beauty is only skin deep, right?! If I was rich I could do and see more!! (Travel!) that's exicting.

i'd have to pick beautiful, all the money in the world can't make you feel good about yourself if your horribly ugly. hope that doesn't sound so bad??? ;)

Rich and then I would get work done. Haha.

I'd rather go with beautiful...and then make money off it? ;) Or I guess you could make yourself beautiful if you have the money. But I'm scared of needles...

I'd rather be rich because I could still be pretty in my heart/soul and could find a partner to love and share my life with that's in my same league. Also, if I was rich I could afford great vacations, a better education, provide for my family etc. Besides, you lose your looks when you age anyways.

Well, you see....pfft! I almost don't wanna answer, but it is soooo bad...it's good. And yeah. I have to answer. My answer will be in the forever internet zone...but, I will survive. Okay. I don't agree with the you are either picking rich (and be ugly) or beautful (and be poor). Well, because...yeah, I won't get all into that. BUT. I would want to be beautiful. Although beauty comes mainly from within. Wait. Is this a trick question? Crap. You got me. I still wanna be beautiful because beauty will get you a long way!!! And beauty can catch the eye of a very rich man!!! Bahahahaha.....

Rich! Hands down!

Instinctively I would say rich - as you can always pay to be made more beautiful! But then I thought about it and hesitated...and now unsure! Intrigued to know what your friends said... Lou x

I was going to say rich, but pretty or ugly can always work hard to make money, so let me go with beautiful.

Haahha this is fun! Ummmmm I'm going to say rich. Unless poor but beautiful girl gets to marry a rich guy at some point. Rich because you can always make yourself prettier with beautiful clothes, perfect hair and make-up, and failing all that, SURGERY!!! I want to know what your friends said!!!

i'm going to have to say rich. because i'm still me on the inside, no matter what my outter appearance may be. and who doesn't love a shopping spree to spice up your outter appearance anyways??!?

Why can't I have both? :)

This really is a tough one because

a) if you pick beautiful/poor, heck, you could wear good-will clothes all the time and still look beautiful! or

b) if picked rich/ugly, do you really think plastic surgery is going to transform you and make you gorgeous? wouldn't that be one major overhaul?? or

c) if pick rich/ugly and you decide to get plastic surgery, could you emotionally handle it? (look at the heidi pratt!) or

d) if you pick beautiful/poor, wouldn't you get a ton of free stuff anyways (drinks, meals, clothes, jewelry, etc)? You woudn't ever have to pay for anything!

Hmmmm....

Been thinking about this for an hour...and still can't choose!!!! LOL!

Rich maybe.....because you would have to be very very ugly or unattractive not to be made beautiful or see yourself as beautiful if you were travelling the world and having the best time ever....and wearing gorgeous clothes etc....

Or maybe beautiful.....!!!!????

Morgan said...

I feel like if you're rich... you can do thinks to make yourself beautiful right?! But as Diddy always says... mo money mo problems so I'm going to go beautiful. :)

I chose Rich because beauty fades and it's what's inside that counts.

Lorena said...

Jen, I gotta say
RICH.
End of story.

Rich. I know that sounds petty but if you were rich and ugly you could still enjoy worldy things and afford to travel all over. Plus not to get tricky but you could use your money to help your looks :)

Interesting question!
I would rather be beautiful :)
I'm quite thrifty anyway hahaha plus, it's easier to make money than it is to become beautiful later on

I think I would be rich bc you can use the money to make yourself beautiful! on the outside at least. totally going with the shallow answer here :)

oh my goodness!!! i was going to say beautiful but beauty fades, right? i'll need the moneys when i'm 60 - so...oh shoot. i don't know. this is stressing me out :)

k said...

see what i did there..the whole not answering thing? well then i felt bad. so i'll go with beautiful!

Jen said...

But who says beauty fades?? I say once a beauty, always a beauty! Prime examples are Harrison Ford, Helen Miran, Faye Dunaway, Meryl Streep... and those are just the ones over 60!

This is brutal! Rich - pay for the work done, but run the risk of looking like a plastic robot (or dying on the operating table - I'm a real bottle of laughs today); Beautiful and poor - well I guess you'd always look good no matter what....and you could always model or something for money and work your way up.

I'm going beautiful! Beautiful for the win!

Carrie

Crap. That is such a great question. I'm going to throw out something that generally people don't like to admit, beautiful people get treated better and usually get more opportunities. It is scientifically proven that beautiful people are treated better. Though if you are rich, you could buy beauty these days. Hmmm. Beauty to me is important, but it's more important to be beautiful and confident on the inside. Being rich can make you greedy and selfish and ugly on the inside. Being beautiful can make you prideful and judgmental. I dunno. There are positives and negatives to both. I can't decide. I'll get back to you.

Either one. The way I see it, if you've got one the other is most likely to follow. Sounds very shallow I know but - it is what it is! ;)

Beautiful - It sounds pretty vain haha but being rich can attract the wrong people sometimes!

Morning Jen,

What an interesting question. I think rich as well... there is so much to do in life if you have money- sad but true we are all greedy folks! :) Can't wait to hear the outcome.. Cam xox

I'd rather be rich. There are always ways to camouflage your flaws, and I'm not convinced that being beautiful is all that it's cracked up to be.

Rich. You can always buy plastic surgery then, haha.

Rich...physical beauty doesn't last. I presume you mean physical beauty vs material wealth, right?
Being rich = security, for me. And being able to help others with your wealth.

I'd pick rich. My look and my bank account are average. i've had beautiful people in my family that still felt bad in their skin. It's really all about the way you feel. So give me the money, and let me travel around the world, I'm sure you forget certain things when you can see others.

I'd be rich, becasue then you can pay to be beautiful. Get your hair done everyday, whatever you need to beautiful.

Andrea said...

What a fun post! I would be rich too, take the loot and fix myself up!

Jo said...

Beautiful. Either one is shallow, but that's human nature.

Jo said...

Okey. Wow. Now that I've read the other comments, I'm surprised. I guess I've just never been money hungry. My friends were talking about what they would do for a million dollars this weekend. To tell the truth, there is A LOT that I WOULDN'T do for a million dollars. But not much that they wouldn't. Haha.

Tatiana said...

This would be really really hard to choose. But I may pick the rich and then get some work done. I think that a lot of those Hollywood stars wouldn't be nearly as attractive if they didn't have all that money to fix their faces and bodies :-)
