Do or Don't

I've been looking at this picture for the longest time now and I'm trying to decide if a lamp sans the shade is a do or don't. Yes, it looks a little bare and it looks like you just didn't get around to getting a shade for it but then again, it may look cool in the right spot. What do you think my lovlies, do or don't?

It looks kinda cool like that. I'd be tempted to put a shade on it, but I don't know...that's kinda interesting.

Its a yes from me...I love how different it is..and I love the bulb look:)

I'd have to say it's a don't. I don't like it very much at all! But I guess it depends on the decor. It looks okay in that picture! :)

if it goes with the room, i say why not? but i'd make sure it was a bedroom or guest room and that the bulb was low wattage...sometimes those bulbs can be bright! :)

I'm out on that one. Don't like it. It just seems like something is missing....because it is.

I say...mmm...don't. Not because I think it looks bad, but because bare bulbs hurt my eyes.

It's interesting, but would eventually wear on me and I'd put a lampshade on it.

It depends- what kind of lighting do you like in a room? Do you have kids? But I say do because it looks cool.

DO. kind of reminds me of the latest restoration hardware look. very cool here in LA

It actually reminds me of a lamp I had back in college. The shade broke and that's what I was left with :) xoxo

I think it's one of those things that are good in theory but not in practice. Like it looks great in that picture, but will bug the crap out of you in real life.

I love the picture, but I'm not sure I would ever do it. I really love how different and simple it is.

i'd say do if you have a vintage theem going on in your house but dont do if not. just an opinion.

and yes gotta love F21 jewlery! looks great for cheap.

I say it's a don't.
It's like me standing in a bra.
I need that shirt !

I think it's a do especially in the right setting.

DON'T! It hurts when you look at the exposed light....in my opinion.

Depending on the rest of the decor..I think Id pop it with a color shade...red:)

I think it is unique and can work! I enjoy when the bulbs hang upside down on a wire from the ceiling!

Don't. Not a fan...but I love amazing lampshades.

Mm..I agree..looks really vintage and romantic...I think it's more as decor than for actually use..cause the light might be too bright! ;)

I like how it looks but I think it would be too bright for me and then a lamp shade would end up on it anyway =)

I've never really thought about it, but I guess I'm a shade girl. It looks a little naked. :)

A dont for me!

I like it, it does look cool but I'd probably top it with a very sheer shade.

I love how it looks in the picture! (But I guess it's not great if you need it as a reading light - right in your eyes might be a bit uncomfy :))

I think it is a definite do, in the right space and with the right decor. If ones house is very traditional it would look odd, but on the desk of an artist it would look great! I think it also helps if the lamp is a bit vintage in style, somehow a brand new shiny lamp without a lampshade strikes me as odd.

No No No do not put a shade on it. A shade will just cover all its immediate appeal. With a shade it is just another lamp.

OneCraftyFox said...

I suppose it depends on the space. For me, I would say a *don't* just because I would want a shade to dim the glare of it.

Nikosmommy said...

I'm gonna go with no. Something about it just seems empty.

I think it depends on the space. I say if you like it, go for it!! xo

This is so pretty -- I love the base! I think if you find a shade you love, you should definitely get it, but don't feel pressure -- it's very cool this way.

no thanks, i like the shade. If you kept the lamp off then the shape is nice but otherwise your little eyes will be bothered.

i like the way it looks, but i like a lamp on in my bedroom and would feel the sting in my eye when i had to look over at it. oy

I am with you. I can't decide. I like it but I don't. Maybe in the right room?! Ahh!! I DO love your new blog however. I left a comment hehe xoxo

I like the idea of it and it's creative and unique but I wonder if it would be functional--you know would it hurt the eyes? I guess you could give it a try for a bit and see how you like it.

It's a beautiful lamp. I love the body but I vote no for the sans lampshade.

I haven't read any of the responses...but I say leave it as is!! VERY cool :)

I think it looks neat if its the right kind of lamp, like this one. Not just any old lamp looks good shadeless!

mmm... I have to say don't. it looks like something is missing for me. nice discussion you have introduced darling! xo

this is actually a tough one, but I'm going for DON'T x

Heather Feemster said...

It looks kind of cool but the bulb on might be a bit much...I've tried before and was temporarily blinded.

Alyssa said...

I love the look, especially because that bulb is very cool. But I do think it'd still end up with some sort of shade in my house. It'd be too bright otherwise. Maybe a shade out of a sheer fabric would be the best of both worlds?

I would have to say yes for interestingness :)

Ugh. Makes me think the owner has to be totally broke.

Bridget said...

i think it looks totally cool but i dont htink i'd like the bright light coming from it...

Gina said...

i think it's a pretty coold idea :)

if it works w/ the area you put it in, why not!

Gina said...

ummmm i think its a cool idea

not a coold idea, haha

I'm not a fan. I think the shades are where all the fun is at!

Oh, My Darling said...

This makes me chuckle because I have a lamp like this, not for aesthetic reasons, but because the shade broke!

It's a yes when the light is off, but turned on the light it gives would probably be to harsh.
