Easy DIY Item

Fingerless mittens have always been a favorite of mine so when I came across these easy DIY directions, I knew I had to share! These fingerless mittens are made from an old sweater. I don't know about you, but I have a bunch of old sweaters that I'd love to make into these great mittens!! Just think, a homemade Christmas gift idea ;-) All you need is: Old Sweater, Scissors, Pins, Needle & Thread.

Directions:
1. From the hem of the sweater, cut (through both the front and back) a rectangle 12 inches high and 8 inches wide. Then cut along the side seam, so you have two pieces.

2. Fold each piece lengthwise with the insides facing out. Mark the thumbhole with pins. It should be 2 1/2 inches wide and 2 inches from the top.

3. Sew 1/2 inch from the edge, leaving the thumbhole open. Reinforce the thumbhole with a separate topstitch. Then sew a 1/2-inch hem at the bottom.

Love this idea. I deliver mail and am always looking for ways to keep the hands warm, but leave the fingers free. Excellent idea!

adorable and easy ...but what's easier is just cutting off the arms and using them ;) no sewing required.

I'm a knitter, and I have to say that one of my favorite knits is fingerless mitts. But I'm seriously considering making some in a similar way to what you suggest. I'm thinking some socks though. . . Love yours!
