Do or Don't

Ok, I don't think I'm understanding this 'trend'... can someone tell me why celebrities are walking around everywhere barefoot? Besides walking to my mailbox or at the beach, pool or park, I can't think of the last time I walked around like this barefoot! Because honestly, all I think about is the broken glass, sharp little rocks or
nails that would go right up my foot. Ouch!!
And check out the celebrities below... Brittney's at the store, Simon is crossing the street, Laura is
on the red carpet and Teri is in a parking lot walking to her car.
So be honest with me, do any of you do this? Walk around barefoot in public? Am I the only one who doesn't??
What's up with this??... Is this 'trend' a definate DO or major DON'T?

i dont walk barefoot in public BUT i do walk barefoot in my yard and aorunf the housr pool and so forth.... i guess because its comfortable sometimes to be without shoes but public is a BIG no no!!!

Ew! So grossed out by this "trend".

Kristen said...

I never walk barefoot, but maybe these few times in pictures were situational?? maybe? hopefully...

BelleinBows said...

Major don't! Funny you post this, I was grossed out yesterday when I saw someone from my apt complex checking the mail barefoot!

Kristen said...

Major Do. I think it has to do with getting back to our "roots". Feet are tough and they can handle the elements/pavement/grass/(red carpet?! thats news to me!). I have no shame taking off my heels for a few city blocks, to get from one place to the next just a bit faster and in comfort. (Yes, I have done this!) I love seeing celebs embrace this and it looks like it really is a new trend. AWESOME!

Leah said...

Yuk! That's gross, except on the beach of coarse!

Not a good trend! That is disgusting!! Think of the diseases and all the things you could step on! Icky!

jen, i think this was to support "go barefoot for toms," the shoe company that donates one pair of shoes for every pair purchased. you can read about it here:

http://www.glamour.com/fashion/blogs/slaves-to-fashion/2010/04/go-barefoot-for-a-cause-help-t.html

it's actually kind of cool... but only for a day! have a great weekend, love!

inappropriate to be barefoot in public unless it is the beach or pool. we call that grocery store feet. ew!

sarahannnoel said...

UGH. Major don't. Especially for a celeb who has no problem dropping hundreds or thousands on one pair of shoes.

I think about all these celebs who have supported organizations like Tom's. What a slap in the face to the very beneficiaries of their kindness--and especially those who are still awaiting their own pair of shoes!

eek! i wont walk in public barefoot (too many germs!) i mean an occasional shoes off in the grass while on a picnic, but not across a parking lot!!

Olivia said...

hmmm... on my sidewalk, yes, in a parking lot, NO! i wish I could do it more, but it's too gross out in our world these days. if we lived in fields, i would be all over that :)

Jen said...

You guys are all so funny!! I'm just thinking of how black the bottom of my feet get when I'm just walking on my driveway. Can you imagine how dirty they'd be from a grocery store floor or a parking lot?!?

But Daisy, I so get your point! Wonderfully stated. I too will take my heels off when they're killing my feet and walk a few blocks... but even that is only if I have to ;-)

I think there's a reason many places say: no shoes, no shirt, no service. Don't you think??

Wendy said...

Hmm, maybe carrying your shoes is the new, hot accessory? I'm with you on the barefoot walking, yard, beach, mailbox.

I love to walk barefoot all the time, but not in the street!
There's a lot of germs and things that can hurt you ..

I voted "Don't"

When I lived in Austin (read: when I was substantially hippie-er) I walked around barefoot all the time. I was mostly just around campus though... I loved it. It made me feel more connected to the earth, and more present in where I was walking (mostly because I had to watch what I was stepping on!). I would totally do it again, if it weren't for the totally weird looks I'd get.

You walk into your house dragging who knows what in...... uuggggggg
I do it only at the beach

I'd never walk around in public barefoot, but I do it around my house/yard.

I once took my shoes off in a bar to dance and my feet were BLACK. Gross!

I'maNolaGirl said...

First, what's the point of having adorable shoes if they're not on your feet?!?!

Second, this just creeps me out. Who knows what they're walking in.

Thanks for stopping by my blog!!

As for this trend....WHAT?! I wasn't even aware this was going on. I'm a 1000 percent against this. Obviously, around the home/property or at the beach, it's understandable. But parking lots? And don't even get me started on having little kids barefoot. Not my thing. You'd think that with all the money they spend on shoes, they'd find some comfortable ones, enough to keep on. :)

Ugg! Major No! I'm not a big fan of feet in the first place, but then seeing feet all around a store or in public or something ew. Yeah thumbs down.

Thanks for stopping by my blog! :) Oh and this trend is a def DONT unless its at your house or in your backyard. Thats just GROSS! Of course....that's just my opinion! Maybe there were doing TOMS challenge to go without shoes for a day?

Lynda @ Happenstance Home said...

I don't think it's a good idea. If my feet hurt - I consider what shoes I will be leaving the house in. I think walking around barefoot in public is pretty disgusting.

alison (semi-fab lane) said...

no! not even if your feet are about to fall off from the pain of your over priced cute shoes...no!

btw-your blog rocks!

OMG! SURIIIIIIIIIIII! She's my favorite little celebritot in the whole wide world. As for being barefoot . . . I've been known to, on occasion, take off my shoes when they're hurting just WAY too bad at the end of a long night, and I'm from Georgia, so I kind of love the idea of running around in grass barefoot . . . but those city streets are mean! Isn't that how people get pinworms? GROSS!

Corinne said...

oh i just love this post! a friend of mine sent me the link because i have been chatting up a storm lately about barefoot running. i don't run completely barefoot but i have been rocking the vibram 5 fingers lately. i love how i can FEEL my feet! i think its important. think back to when you were a kid and it was summertime and you just walked around barefoot ALL day. i feel this has something to do with that. its fun in warm weather. as long as you are aware of your surroundings and aren't in a place where they serve food this is a do.

I love being barefoot...but, would never in NYC on the sidewalks or street (MAYBE in a grassy park)! When I am in the burbs I wear shoes as little as possible, but pretty sure I have them on in stores and parking lots. ha.

Simply Mel {Reverie} said...

I love to be barefoot, but there are only a few places that I actually do go sans shoes! however, I have to admit, I do let the little crumb run all over the place without shoes ~ perhaps, it is my inner desire just being practiced through her! ha! But I scrub the heck out of her feet every night!

Lady Grey said...

Yes, in a park. Yes, on a beach. Yes, on a country road. But definitely NO on a Hollywood sidewalk, just because it's a trend!

Lyndsy said...

I really try not to ever walk barefoot anywhere besides my house, but sometimes if the situation calls for it you don't really have a choice! AKA last sunday when my TOM's gave me blisters on the back of my heels, and I had to walk home barefoot. Not ideal but necessary!

I find it pretty gross. It's so.... un-hygienic if that's even a word. Unless you are home or at the beach, you at least need flip flops.

Gosh, I still get upset when I have to take shoes off at the airport. YUK! But, if my feet hurt really really bad, I would take my shoes off. And have done.
So Yes/No. Simon Baker barefoot looks awesome, the girls carrying their shoes look cute, the ones just plain barefoot look like they're posing.

definite "don't"! Though I will walk on the sidewalk right in front of my house ...

Erin said...

I think there's a little more credibility to the ones at least holding shoes, maybe they hurt or something. There used to be some weirdos that went barefoot everywhere on my college campus, but the celebs should know better maybe? I do spend a lot of time barefoot but that really only around my house and at the boat. Not in town for sure!

Jodi Kendall said...

Yeah, not really a fan of this in public. I'd be afraid of stepping on glass too. I just saw a lady and her kids walking around barefoot at the zoo yesterday... not for me. But at home and in my backyard, definitely.

It was for Toms shoes. I missed this day or I so would have done it. In Mississippi the kids who are poor still go without shoes. Shame, such a shame!

it's a don't!

After hearing how much some of you walk barefoot, maybe I should give it a try! Heck, if I get something up my foot, that's what emergency rooms are for, right?? ;-)

Heather Feemster said...

Put some shoes on people!

Jason said...

For everyone that posted how gross this is. How about putting on your thinking caps people. How is walking barefoot any worse as the insides of your shoes. Shoes harbor bacteria. I wash my feet everyday, how often do you wash your shoes? Hmm? Furthermore you cannot get diseases such as athletes foot if you aren't wearing shoes, you must pick up the bacteria then immediately put on shoes to pick it up. Because athletes foot needs a damp, dark, moist environment to grow. Also, everyone that thinks going barefoot is gross probably goes through town doing their day to day shopping touching shopping cart handle, doors, and god knows what else with germs all over the place. How many of you wash your hands the second after touching something? Hmm? So how is going barefoot any worse? Generally dirt you can see isn't as harmful as the stuff you cant! And skin is made to keep pathogens out so unless you are walking around with a gash in your foot, you won't pick anything up.
